The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees the rights of all Americans to assemble, speak out, and protest. But where did they assemble in 1778? Since there was neither TV nor radio, they assembled in town squares. One of the extraordinary changes wrought by the Digital Revolution is that this proverbial town square has now become an electronic or virtual town square. Here, a person who wishes to assemble a crowd and start a movement can reach out to 10 million people within the space of an hour. And doing so is free.
