Repeated slaps from investment markets in 2000/2001 have refocused planners on portfolio construction, and the value of asset allocation.
The later was increasingly ignored during the 80s and 90s. As the bull market ran its course, the place of asset allocation in the 'new economy" investment world was questioned. I well remember a 1999 US FPA conference presentation on the (genuine) subject 'when will the Dow hit 100,000'?Â
No less a publication than the Wall Street Journal wrote about the 'End of Asset Allocation'.
